Sent to the most violent battlefield in Iraq, Jocko Willink and Leif Babin’s SEAL task unit faced a seemingly impossible mission: help U.S. forces secure Ramadi, a city deemed “all but lost.” In gripping firsthand accounts of heroism, tragic loss, and hard-won victories in SEAL Team Three’s Task Unit Bruiser, they learned that leadership—at every level—is the most important factor in whether a team succeeds or fails.Willink and Babin returned home from deployment and instituted SEAL leadership training that helped forge the next generation of SEAL leaders. After departing the SEAL Teams, they launched Echelon Front, a company that teaches these same leadership principles to businesses and organizations. From promising startups to Fortune 500 companies, Babin and Willink have helped scores of clients across a broad range of industries build their own high-performance teams and dominate their battlefields.

Now, detailing the mind-set and principles that enable SEAL units to accomplish the most difficult missions in combat, Extreme Ownership shows how to apply them to any team, family or organization. Each chapter focuses on a specific topic such as Cover and Move, Decentralized Command, and Leading Up the Chain, explaining what they are, why they are important, and how to implement them in any leadership environment.

A compelling narrative with powerful instruction and direct application, Extreme Ownership revolutionizes business management and challenges leaders everywhere to fulfill their ultimate purpose: lead and win.

This was a great, no nonsense read. A lot of bang for the buck that addresses the common issues and concepts of leadership, what makes it work and what doesn't.

I've been in the service industry for over three decades, owning a franchise business and working at two different franchise headquarters. This book is not only an interesting read of actual events, but demonstrates actual application to leadership. Extreme Ownership is a must read. It's not just about managing people, it's about managing yourself - which ultimately is where responsibility lies.

This book is the real deal. There is nothing artificial or gimmicky inside. Jocko and Leif weave practical and practicable leadership lessons throughout entertaining narratives covering their military and business-consulting careers. And they do so with sincere humility, not false bravado. The result is a highly motivational text that shows personal and business leadership (at various levels - not simply the top) to be both an approachable topic and an attainable goal for everyone.

Great practical read on how military lessons learned translate to business. It's true, most of this might be common sense. However, the test is in executing. Good text to keep as a reference text.

I have come to know “Extreme Ownership” just in time I needed it. I was looking for some book or frankly, any material available, to help me get to MY next level, and I always have been a leader by heart, and a team leader for some time. What I got from reading “Extreme Ownership” which took me quite some time to read and digest, was that I have to be humble! After finishing the book I could defintely define myself a humbler person and a humbler leader for sure. I think the Extreme part of the title is very apt to defining the length authors (Both Leif and Jocko) had to go to make it engraved in my mind to BE HUMBLE. Of course many other pointers come up in the book, but this one is the most prominent. If you can lead yourself, you can lead anyone! Most leadership porblems are somehow related to this fact that leadership begins from within. There is no book that defines this finer than “Extreme Ownership”. Loved it and will read it once again.

I enjoyed the stories and how the authors relate their experiences to an application in leadership. If you are thinking of reading this book- DON'T HESITATE! I will not only read this book again, but I intend to have my team read it as well. There are many lessons that emerging leaders can apply to strengthen their style of leadership. Thank you Jocko and Leif for sharing your story and inspiring me!
