Description

Anthem is a dystopian fiction novella by Ayn Rand, written in 1937 and first published in 1938 in England. It takes place at some unspecified future date when mankind has entered another dark age characterized by irrationality, collectivism, and socialistic thinking and economics. Technological advancement is now carefully planned (when it is allowed to occur at all) and the concept of individuality has been eliminated.

Starts with promise, but ends up with pages of redundant pontificating.

This book actually required me to read nearly every word in every chapter in order for me to even begin to understand what was going on- and I can't remember the last time I needed to do that to fully understand a book. This book requires a mind that isn't so closed or one minded. You have to be ready to be confused in the beginning, and piece it all together as you read through the book. Reviewers saying they couldn't understand the book or find have to replace the "we" with "I" in order to read it are telling me that they are incapable of thinking outside the box and generally speaking may be unable to read in a difficult, yet logical and intelligent manner. If you desire to read this book, be prepared to be confused at the beginning, yet understand nearly everything later. Also, please remember that if a book can make you ask questions that may not have a single answer to them, it's a very good thing.

The book is really good. But it is also confusing. But I liked it more than I thought I would.
