You can’t stop the future.

You can’t rewind the past.
The only way to learn the secret . . . is to press play.

Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a strange package with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers several cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker—his classmate and crush—who committed suicide two weeks earlier. Hannah's voice tells him that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out why.

Clay spends the night crisscrossing his town with Hannah as his guide. He becomes a firsthand witness to Hannah's pain, and as he follows Hannah’s recorded words throughout his town, what he discovers changes his life forever.

I wanted to like this book but I found the characters so annoying. I think Hannah was such a contradiction, selfish, and lacked any TRUE reason for committing suicide. She was so self-absorbed and irritating. Clay was also annoying and I got sick of reading this book. I even tried to give the Netflix series a shot to see if I was being too harsh about the book, but realized I disliked the story even more after watching it. I get what they are trying to portray, but my sympathy is lost on Hannah.
  • Love it but why do they treat her like that?

I read this only because everyone was raving about it, but I found this so hard to read. It was so boring and wayyyyy to long for the story line. I did not like this book. I found myself counting down the pages until I would be finished. Wasn't for me and that's ok.

Something very different than what I would usually read but definitely happy that I did. I'm glad everyone is talking about this book/the show on Netflix. To make sure people think twice on what they say to other people.
