Description

The Metamorphosis (German: Die Verwandlung, also sometimes translated as The Transformation) is a novella by Franz Kafka, first published in 1915. It has been cited as one of the seminal works of fiction of the 20th century and is studied in colleges and universities across the Western world. The story begins with a traveling salesman, Gregor Samsa, waking to find himself transformed (metamorphosed) into a large, monstrous insect-like creature. The cause of Samsa's transformation is never revealed, and Kafka never did give an explanation. The rest of Kafka's novella deals with Gregor's attempts to adjust to his new condition as he deals with being burdensome to his parents and sister, who are repulsed by the horrible, verminous creature Gregor has become.

This is an amazing novel, despite the character being a "vermin" or "bug" (this depends upon which translation you choose) i felt it was immediately easy to feel how Gregor felt. I also really enjoyed the way the novel was set up, because despite it being in one setting, the story remained captivating and fluid. There were so many connections between Gregor and Franz that it made me understand where the novel came from. Also this specific translation of the novel is one of my favorites! :) -Happy reading!

I'm no expert author or reviewer, but I found this to be an entertaining read. It wasn't too long, and I liked the premise. I thought it to be very precise and to the point.

Its well written but the ending kinda screws you over in the end. Just makes ya feel empty and betrayed while opening up more questions. Like ya just wasted a lot of time. Its not for the average Joe

So I gave this book only two stars because it was boring. The ending, and the whole entire book didn't make any sense to me. My opinion, your opinion could be different :)

I found this book on a buzzfeed list that said "it will change the way you treat people". This book was powerful, and saddening, it makes you really think about how others feel about your actions. Good read for a lover of classics and people with weird bug obsessions!

Great book, still very applicable to today’s economic strife alineating workers. People scared to call in sick, living at home with your parents, and trying to reach unobtainable sale’s quotas in the hope of making it to the top!

As a mom or as a father you are spending your life for a child or doing so much for your spouse - remember what Gregor"s family do to him when he is of no use. The past is what it is. He did what he did. He can do no more - there is no gratification from that relationship - get rid of him. That is the essence of all social relationships and the family is no exception. The take away - live your existence and do your duty to others but before that to yourself - the western living by and large gets it for most relationships than for mother and children..
