Theo MacLeod wasn’t supposed to be the one.

Tall, dark and handsome suits me just fine, but the cocky grin, know-it-all attitude, and mammoth ego? No thanks. I only hired him so I wouldn’t have to sit at the singles table again. It was just pretend.

He wasn’t supposed to kiss me.

My heart wasn’t supposed to pound.

We weren’t supposed to spend the night together—the hottest night of my life.

One night turns into a snowed-in weekend away, and even the blizzard of the century can’t cool the fire between us. I can’t get enough—of his smile, of his body, of the way he makes me feel.

We’re nothing alike. He’s a daredevil, and I’m a nervous Nellie. He’s a drifter, and I want to put down roots. He’s an opportunist with a checkered past, and I’m a Girl Scout volunteer.

But none of it matters when I’m in his arms.

I know he’s made mistakes. I know his wounds are deep, and he doesn’t trust easily. I know he doesn’t believe he could ever be enough to make me happy, but he could.

All he has to do is stay.

  • Sorry but the story was very predictable

Pros: very few grammatical errors. Female character came across as intelligent. Cons: boring storyline. Predictable plot. Skipped a lot and could still follow through because it was so predictable :(

This author was new to me, so I didn't know what to expect. I will be looking for her books from now on. A well written romance, with very believable characters. Delicious ingredients that you can savor with relish. Laughter, tears, and the always hoped for, happy ending. Enjoy !

Anytime I read a Melanie Harlow book I feel like I'm watching my best friends fall in love. Claire and Theo's story made my romance loving heart so happy. This book had so many great factors to it but the standouts for me were lessons in self acceptance and forgiveness. When Claire hires Theo to be her date for a wedding, a mutual attraction has the pair thinking there could be something beyond one night of pretending. The chemistry was fantastic in this book, but the easy friendship between the pair was what had me smiling throughout the entire story. Theo saw in Claire what she couldn't see in herself. He pushed her to step outside of her comfort zone. He helped her discover that self confidence she lacked. Theo has had a hard past. He doesn't believe he deserves or is capable of anything besides the kind of transient life he's been living. Claire gives him something he's never had, friendship without judgment and an open heart. She's quite possibly one of the kindest heroines I've ever read. There is so much character growth with these two. This is a perfect example of how you can be your biggest critic. They both had to break out of the mindset that they weren't good enough. This made for a lot of moments that tug at the heart strings. I'm not one that has to have an epilogue to every story, so big high five to Harlow for writing one that was just a swoon worthy as the entire story. In all honesty it's one of the best ones I've read. This book will have you caught up in the magic of a first kiss, and the fairytale of finding the one. It's everything a romance should be. I enjoyed this book so much, as with any well written couple I'm sad to see them go. 4.5 stars.
  • Great book but...

    By Jerrica07
I got almost half way ish and the pages were cut off and then the paragraphs from other pages were on top of other pages and everything started getting mixed up and I missed a whole chapter that was important then I read the next chapter even though I missed what happened and then the next chapter did the same thing so I gave up. Is there a way to fix this? Or get a new copy? The book is good and I'd really love to finish the book.
  • Yes Theo, I'm yours. All. Freaking. Yours.

Melanie Harlow never ceases to amaze me. Her stories always tug at my heartstrings and make me wish all her heroes are mine in real life. They always have that unique sweetness filled with a kind of magic where sparks fly, the chemistry between characters so vulnerable, so achingly raw and real, and that passion and heart you just constantly crave in a wonderful love story. Theo and Claire's is no different. They will steal your heart from the very first page and give you a journey of a lifetime in finding love with so much feels. It's indeed magical and powerful in every way that there was just never a dull moment on each turn of the ride. If You Were Mine wasn't just a tale of second chances—it was about making mistakes a third, fourth or fifth time, owning up to them and learning to face and make up for them. It will make you realize how truly powerful an emotion love is; how finding the right and perfect person can make you see how more than enough you are, not only for them, but for the world. If you're looking for a romance novel that will make you burn up inside, swoon, melt and FEEL, read this. Theo and Claire will certainly not disappoint you.
  • I love Theo!

    By Lexy H.
**4.5 Stars** I love anything Melanie brings us, so I knew I was going to love Claire and Theo's story. Every time Melanie writes a book, I feel like I know everything about the characters and it's watching one of my best friends fall in love with their person. I love it. If You Were Mine was no different. This can be read as a standalone, but it does mention characters from Man Candy and After We Fall. I love everything about Claire and Theo, not only did they fall in love, but to get there they had to learn lessons along the way. They had to learn about self acceptance, forgiveness, and how to love. Both of these characters had to overcome things in their past, whether it be to learn to love themselves and accept everything about themselves and to forgive themselves all things in their past. Claire is this all loving character who gives her all. But, she had to learn to love herself and accept all the good things about herself that Theo loved. Her self confidence become more prominent because of the love she had for Theo and the way he treated her. Theo hasn't had an easy life, but he is a very loving man. He is broken but he is truly amazing. He treats Claire with all the respect and love she deserves, but it doesn't come without trial and error. He has to learn to accept who he is to truly learn how to love. He has to accept that he can be loved and love someone in return. I loved everything about this story. Claire and Theo are two of my favorite characters. I can't wait to see what else Melanie brings us!
  • Don't Look Over The Edge, JUMP

    By Agent$$$$
Wow! Where to start....such an AMAZING novel!!! Claire, last of the single ladies in her group of friends, detests the nonstop looks, whispers, and badgering she receives when attending an event as a single gal. She's unlucky in love and does not want to attend another wedding only to be placed at the singles table--AGAIN. When cornered, Claire even tells her friends and coworkers that she has a boyfriend that will be attending the wedding with her. She even describes her "fairytale" dream man to them. With the wedding a couple of weeks away, Claire goes online to find a "Hottie For Hire". Theo, a drifter and a loaner, answers Claire's ad for "Hottie For Hire". Theo has a past criminal history, an abusive father, and a mother who abandoned he and his brother when they were very young. Theo also carries the added burden of filling in for his brother every time he leaves his family on a drunken binge. Theo feels as though he owes it to his brother to help out since he endured most of their father's abuse so Theo would be spared. Even though Theo thinks he's not "relationship or father" material, he's great with his nieces! So he goes from job to job, city to city never committing to anything or anyone--until Claire walks into his life. Claire is brilliant, artistic, a fixer, good with kids, and a wonderful friend. But she is severely lacking in confidence. She sabotages her love life and possible art career with self doubt. Then Theo walks into her life....What starts off as a "date for hire", quickly turns into friendship and more. Theo is supportive of Claire's dreams, encouraging her to approach stores in hopes that they will sell her art. He encourages her to NOT look over the edge, but to JUMP! In turn, Claire is a balm to Theo's tortured soul. Claire gets him to open up about his past and start to believe he deserves a chance at happiness. I LOVE that this novel didn't go straight to the HEA. I felt as though I was struggling right along with Theo and Claire. I wanted to weep for the boy who was abused, the woman who thought she wasn't good enough, etc. We all have issues we struggle with. It was nice to see them work to make their relationship solid. Lastly, I enjoyed seeing how Theo made Claire's fairytale come true!!! Classic! It was one of the most unique uses of supporting characters EVER! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
