The first standalone book in CJ Duggan's HEART OF THE CITY series - a very sassy, super sexy New Adult romance from the internationally bestselling author of the SUMMER and PARADISE series.

'You're breaking up with me!'
He was silent.
'In Paris.'
Eyes dropping.
'Under the Eiffel-f*****g-Tower!' I screamed.

Twenty-five-year-old Claire Shorten had looked forward to spending a romantic weekend in Paris for as long as she could remember, and now it was here - three blissful days of strolling through cobbled streets arm-in-arm with her beloved, eating copious amounts of baked goods and soaking up the culture through each and every pore of her body. Well, at least, that was how she'd pictured it . . .

Even after her boyfriend dumps her rather unceremoniously in the most romantic place on earth, Claire is determined not to give up on her dream altogether - with or without a boyfriend. She finds herself a job in the kitchen of a small hotel; Michelin-starred it most certainly is not, but somehow Claire makes a place for herself amidst the dirty dishes and the foreign misfits who run the place.

When the restaurant attracts the attention of the enigmatic - if not slightly terrifying - tycoon Louis Delarue, and Claire manages to survive his high-powered business luncheon from hell, she knows that she can survive anything, surely. But all bets are off when Louis makes a game-changing decision: he's coming back for a second course . . .

** contains sneak peek chapters of NEW YORK NIGHTS and LONDON BOUND **

  • First half, 1 star. Second 3.5

The first half of this book is ROUGH!!!! I was so annoyed. The author took way too long setting everything up. I feel it would have been so much better if she had brought the MCs together sooner. The best scenes in the book, by far!, were the main characters interacting. But there was too little of it. All of their time was rushed. And after all that superfluous plot the first half, the ending was rushed. Not even an epilogue to feel a bit more closure. I'm giving 3 stars because I did finish and did enjoy the story as a whole. But if it hadn't been set in Paris, I probably wouldn't have kept going past the first quarter.

My housework suffered while I read this book; I couldn't put it down. I didn't want the story to end. It captured all my emotions and I hope C.J. Duggan writes a sequel for it because I completely fell in love with the characters.

Lighthearted, funny, romantic Paris setting. You could feel the chemistry between Claire and Louis. Some grammatical issues and not enough background on the main characters.
  • Just perfect

I am not a book reader and rarely eve read. Very few books have caught my attention, I haven't even finished the 2nd book of fifty shades of grey. I got a iPhone and was found the iBooks app. Opened it up and Paris Lights was there. I read the sample pages and said ehh what the heck its a free book. Let me tell you, I absolutely loved it. I could not put my phone down, all in wanted to do was read this story. The more I would read the more I fell in love with the story. As I read every word I was able to imagine and create the actual vision about what the author was saying in my head. The details from the hotel to the food to Paris. I was able to picture it all. I loved the story between Claire and Louise. I am sad the book finished. I truly enjoyed reading this book. it was always keeping me wanting more and at no time did I find it dragging or boring. If you like a good romance book with a little intense heat, this book is a must read. Now I want to read lo her other books. Thank you for providing this book free of charge, you opened a door of enjoyment these past few days as I read the book and I can not wait to read the others.

New author for me and I loved her writing. A different and very enjoyable story. She didn't rush to get you to where you hope to go. I loved Clare and felt her pain and insecurities. And Louis, I wanted to slap him too. But I kept my fingers crossed. Trust me, you won't be sorry to read their story. I am off to look for more books by this author.
