“A landmark in American literature” (Chicago Sun-Times)—Stephen King’s #1 national bestseller about seven adults who return to their hometown to confront a nightmare they had first stumbled on as teenagers…an evil without a name: It.

Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real.

They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made twenty-eight years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children. Now, children are being murdered again and their repressed memories of that terrifying summer return as they prepare to once again battle the monster lurking in Derry’s sewers.

Readers of Stephen King know that Derry, Maine, is a place with a deep, dark hold on the author. It reappears in many of his books, including Bag of Bones, Hearts in Atlantis, and 11/22/63. But it all starts with It.

“Stephen King’s most mature work” (St. Petersburg Times), “It will overwhelm you… to be read in a well-lit room only” (Los Angeles Times).

This book took me a lot longer then usual to read due to being so long, but it was a great journey. Character development and detail of the city of Derry is phenomenal. This book is not scary as it is thrilling. It takes a while for King to set the page turning mood, but when he does you better set a day aside to binge read.

  • Best King Novel Written

    By Sign5438
I've read this novel so many times, I've lost count. I'm on the audio book for the second time, the story of course, but Steven Weber is probably one of the best narrators ever. I genuinely feel like I grew up and am best friends with Bill Denbrough, Richie Tozier, Beverly Marsh, Ben Hamscom, Eddie Kasbrack, Mike Hanlon, and Stanley Uris. I've been through the Barrens, visited 29 Niebolt Street, walked down Witcham Street, watched films at The Aladdin, rode down Upmile Hill, crossed Canal Street, played in the gravel pit, rode down Kansas street in Silver, and know every nook and cranny of Derry, Maine. I know these characters, have cried with them, felt terror with them, ran from Henry Bowers, heard Richie's awful voices in 1958, and went back to Derry in 1985. This is the most connected I've ever felt to characters in a novel, save Tom Wingo in The Prince of Tides. This is the Great American Novel, despite it being written off by some literary snobs as pulp horror fiction. Nobody develops a character or setting as skillfully as King does. Once again, at book's end, I grieve as I say goodbye once again to my seven friends. But, they're always there the next time I pick it up. Thanks, Mr. King. Sincerely, Constant Reader.

One of the most epic books I've ever read in my life. Hoping the soon to be big screen production will do justice to the true story written in these pages.

You cannot just simply take my word for it, or anyone else's word for that matter. This book will make you feel every emotion possible. This is kings best work in my mind. If you have not read "IT" then I am jealous. I wish I could go back to the first time. I don't even want to write up anything pertaining to the story. Jump in and enjoy this magical present that S.K. Has given to you. You won't regret it!
