Description

Nicola Price used to have it all – a great career, the perfect boyfriend, an excessive shoe collection and an apartment in one of San Francisco’s best neighborhoods. But when she gets knocked up and her asshat boyfriend leaves her high and dry, Nicola’s perfectly crafted world comes tumbling down. And stays that way.

Now, Nicola is the proud single mom to a five-year old daughter and living a giant lie. She can barely afford their ghetto apartment and all the men she dates run when they hear she comes with a child. She’s struggling and scared – and nowhere near where she thought she’d be at age thirty-one.

Her saving grace comes in the form of a tall, handsome and wealthy Scotsman Bram McGregor, the older brother of her friend Linden. Bram understands a thing or two about pride, so when tragic circumstances place Nicola at rock bottom, he offers them a place to live in the apartment complex he owns. It’s pretty much the perfect deal, so as long as she doesn’t mind living beside Bram, a man that, despite his generosity, seems to antagonize her at every turn.

But nothing in life is free and as Nicola gets her feet back on the ground, she discovers that the enigmatic playboy may end up costing her more than she thought.

She might just lose her heart.

Another home run by Karina Halle! I don't write great reviews but here goes just get this book. Karina has become one of my favorite authors. She makes her characters come to life and we can relate to everything she writes.

I fell in love with Karina's books last year when I picked up "the pact" and I have picked up a lot of her other works since. This has to be one of my favorites! It was funny and smart and heart clinchingly (is that even a word?) perfect. The characters were awesome and fully relatable but I guess the one I relate to the most was Ava haha I've been a type one diabetic myself since the age of 2 and this July will celebrate 28 years of being a diabetic. So it was interesting to see a character that has the same disease. Bram reminded me of Gerard Butler in the "Ugly Truth" where you'd love to hate him because he's so chauvinistic and kind of a pig but he is unequivocally himself- take no prisoners and make no apologies. Eventually we find out that there is much more to Bram than meets the eye and that transition is what kept me enthralled with the book. Nicola is a strong heroine and a major shout out to the struggle of being a single mom. The ending was excellent it just seemed a little rushed and I hope that there will be a third book to explain some more of the details and backstory about the information we get in the last few pages ( after you read it, you'll know haha) all in all I'm #TeamPerv all the way!

I never thought I could love another McGregor more than Linden, but The Offer has proven me wrong. Bram McGregor has my heart in the palm of his huge, Scottish hand. Bram McGregor is infamous for his playboy ways and rugged good looks. He’s never bothered to correct people because he simply sees no point in wasting away precious energy. Hiding who he truly is from everyone including his brother, Linden, has him bottling up every thought, emotion, and detail of his life. That all begins to change when a certain woman makes an impression on him one night at his brother’s wedding. Nicola Price has had to transition from a cushiony lifestyle to one one that’s a bit subpar. After her boyfriend/baby daddy left her and their daughter, Ava, it’s been her and Ava against the world. Suddenly finding herself in need of serious financial help leads her to form a new relationship with the brother of her best friend’s husband. Getting Nicola to accept Bram’s help is a full-time job, but his determination is at an all time high. Eventually Nicola solidifies her motto of “live with no regrets” by giving in to her desires and listening to her heart once again. Breaking down the cage she’s built around herself piece by piece and letting Bram in day by day. But becoming completely vulnerable to another person is never that simple. Bram also fears showing all of himself to Nicola, and in the end, that may very well be their downfall. ************* The sexual tension was through the roof in this book and once they finally meshed into one, Bram and Nicola created magic. No doubt some scenes had me blushing, others had me laughing out loud, and plenty had me fanning myself. Thanks to Bram, I won’t be able to step into another IKEA without thinking of this book. What I liked about the way the sex scenes were written in this book, was the intricacy of weaving dirty and romantic aspects into one. Yes, they had hot and dirty sex, but at the same time, the passion and intimacy showed through. It’s obvious that Bram and Nicola never once had “just sex”. I think that all boils down to the chemistry these two individuals had. Nicola is independent and headstrong. Being a single mother barely making ends meet, there’s really no other way to be. Merely accepting Bram into her life as nothing more than an acquaintance is hard enough, but bringing him into her and her daughter's life further than that is certainly no easy feat. Bram’s past and steady reputation is something he can’t shake. Incidentally, this factor is the main reason as to why Nicola is so hesitant to give in to his kindness and charm in any way. Bram sees Nicola’s stubbornness and raises his persistence. He never gave up trying to get her to see the real him. For that reason, I fell head over heels for that Scottish hunk. Add on the fact that he exudes charm, and is ridiculously good-looking—oh oh oh, and how about the way he treats and interacts with Ava so well…*sigh* Nicola is sassy, strong, and knows exactly how to keep up with Bram. Two of the best well-written characters/couples I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading about! The Offer is a passionate and intense story about a single mom finding the strength to open her heart and let down her walls, and a kindhearted man with a messy past trying to reform his rep. It’s jam-packed with angst, steam and comedy, and it comes with a book boyfriend guarantee! ;)
